“Welcome to the world Jude Thomas Jones! On this crazy Election Day, you are certainly a win,” read Kristen Jones’ Facebook status with a picture of the newest member of the Jones family.
On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6 Kristen and Woody Jones of Selma welcomed a baby at Vaughan hospital at 8:21 p.m., shortly after the polls closed. This was also just hours after Kristen voted at Memorial Stadium.
“I had some contractions while I was voting,” Kristen said. “When I got to the doctor after voting for my appointment, the contractions were five minutes apart.”
When asked if anyone should have an excuse as to why they didn’t vote, after she was having contractions and still went to the polls Kristen said, “I think if its something you really want to do you will find a way to get it done and make it happen.”
And she did make it happen. While she was scheduled to induce labor and deliver Jude on Nov. 7, when she arrived for her appointment after voting, the doctor wanted to perform a cesarean section at 8 p.m. that night and they admitted her to a room immediately.
Woody said he saw the results of the election just after Jude arrived.
“When he was born I took Jude from the operating room to the nursery while Kristen was in recovery. I walked out of the nursery and into our room and that is when they announced Ohio,” Woody said.
By winning Ohio, President Obama had guaranteed winning re-election. Woody told Kristen the news in recovery.
Since Woody is a local attorney and Jude was born on one of the most talked about Election Days, it was only fair to ask if Jude will one day be a politician.
“He very well could,” Kristen said. “I wouldn’t wish that on him but only time will tell.”
The Jones welcomed Jude as their second son. He weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.
