Red light cameras are working

Tuesday, during the Selma City Council’s meeting, council president Cecil Williamson — in no uncertain terms — told the mayor that no more red light cameras are to be installed and activated until the council has had a chance to review the program.
That was a fair request, but we’re here to offer a quick answer to Dr. Williamson’s request: The cameras are working.
Admittedly, we have no report about how many tickets have been issued or accidents averted, but the two tickets the Times-Journal’s truck has been hit with since the cameras have gone up were clear and correct.
The person driving our truck — on both occassions — ran the red light and the ticket was paid.
Maybe the program is due a review after more than a year of activity. But we’re proof that they’re working and need to stay.
