Candidate qualifying ends, some earn election without a race

Published 6:06 pm Tuesday, July 17, 2012

The deadline for candidate qualifying came and went Tuesday with a few Selma City Councilmen earning re-election without a race.

Selma Ward 1 councilman Cecil Williamson earned another four-year term, as did incumbent Ward 5 representative Sam Randolph. Neither had had another candidate qualify to run against them. Greg Bjelke, who represents Ward 3, won a special election just over a year ago to earn his spot on the council, and Tuesday earned another four years on the council after no one filed to run against him.

On the Selma City School Board, District 4 representative Dr. Udo Ufomadu earned re-election after no one qualified to run against him. That is the only position in the school board race that is uncontested.
