Virginia Thompson Alexander

Virginia Thompson Alexander died May 7, 2012 at her home in Leesburg, VA after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Selma, on July 18, 1926, and graduated from A. G. Parrish High School in 1944. She married William T. Alexander of Selma and Sherman, Texas in 1948. As an Air Force couple they were stationed at various bases over the years, including Roswell, New Mexico, Omaha, Nebraska, Washington, D.C., Montgomery, Alabama, Guam and Germany. In 1969, her husband retired from the Air Force to Montgomery, Alabama until 2005 when she and her husband moved to Virginia to live with their only child.

Mrs. Alexander is survived by her husband of 64 years, William T. Alexander, Lt. Col., USAF, Retired. She is also survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Alexander Newton, son-in-law, Harry N. Newton, Lt. Col., USAF, Retired, four grandchildren, Keegan A. Newton, Kendall E. Newton, Sadie K. Newton, and Grange W. Newton (all of Philomont, Virginia), her younger brother, Gary Thompson of Selma, nieces Teresa T. Casey, Selma, Angela T. Tanger, Tampa , Florida, and Sudie T. Speed, Selma, and nephew Garrison Thompson, Jr., Gaffney, South Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents, Elna Garrison Thompson and Silas Joseph Thompson, and two younger brothers, Milton B. Thompson and Curtis Thompson, (all of Selma, Alabama).

Graveside services will be held on July 16, 2012 at the Arlington National Cemetery in VA at 1:00 in the afternoon.
