Selma Recreation Department teams are gearing up for the postseason stretch.

The 13-14 year old Dixie Boys teams will begin their city tournament at the old Selma Softball Complex June 11.

Elton Reece, Selma Parks and Recreation director, said the city tournament is just the start of the postseason process for the Dixie Boys.

“We’ll start our city tournament June 11 then we’ll get ready for a district tournament here following that,” Reece said. “We have four teams in our league. We’ve got one team that’s 11-0 which is First Cahawba Bank, and the second place team is Pepsi.”

Reece said the tournament will be double-elimination.

Reece added the number of players are down this year, but the league has gone well and is helping a lot of the area’s young players prepare for the transition to the high school level.

“The Dixie Boys, our numbers are down a little bit, but our teams are competitive with each other and they all get plenty of playing time. It’s going good,” Reece said. “Dixie boys baseball, this is for people who are more serious about continuing their baseball into high school and maybe on into college. It’s more serious baseball — higher skill levels.”

Playoffs are also set to begin for the younger teams on Monday at the Old Softball Complex, as a pair of teams were awarded their regular season championship trophies on Friday night.

Selma Trophy of the 5-6 year old girls softball league was crowned regular season champion, as was Discount Tire in the 5-6 year old boys baseball league.
