Sandra Teresa Smith Furlow

Sandra Teresa Smith Furlow, 55, of Marion Alabama, died May 16, 2012 in Birmingham Alabama. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in special ways throughout her short, yet very memorable life.

Affectionately called Cookie, Sandra was born in Selma Alabama on June 27, 1956 to Eugene Smith, Sr. and Lucille Brock Smith.

Sandra received her formal education through the Selma City Public School System, where she excelled in her studies and was also active in cheerleading.

After high school, Sandra worked for many years in the health care field, including working as a medical transcriptionist at Good Samaritan and Vaughn Regional Hospitals and serving as Director of Medical Records at Perry County Hospital. In her leisure,she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and playing computer games.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, both of Selma.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ricky Furlow of Marion Alabama, whom she shared her life with for over 30 years, and her cherished daughter, Schnavia Joy Smith (Allan) Hatcher of Lawrenceville Georgia.

She is also survived by her five siblings: Eugene Smith, Jr of Selma; Wesley Smith of East St. Louis,Illinois; Gregory Davis of Atlanta Georgia; Adra Walton of Hampton Georgia; and Angela (Tony) Rogers of Stockbridge Georgia; six sister-in-laws: Lucy (Harold) Gray of Selma; Louise (Cecil) Andrews of Maplesville; Corine (Ronnie) Mitchell of Selma; Mahler Furlow of Selma; Bernice Furlow of Prattville; and Rosie Pearl (Eddie) Berry of Selma; and four brother-in-laws: Lewis (Patricia) Furlow of Plantersville; Carl Lee (Veronica) Furlow of Chicago, IL; Callen Furlow of Marion; and Anthony (Diane) Furlow of Marion.

Survivors also include her adored granddaughter, Lauren Hatcher of Lawrenceville Georgia, and several treasured nieces and nephews: Sharada Smith of Selma Alabama; Desiree Rogers of StockbridgeGeorgia; Tony Rogers, II of Stockbridge Georgia; Sharod Martin, Rodney Martin, and Rashod Martin of Selma Alabama.

Sandra also leaves behind a host of other loving relatives, in-laws, and friends.

The family will receive friends at J. H. Williams Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 6:00 until 7:00 PM.

Services are scheduled for 1 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Selma Alabama, with the Reverend Effell Williams, Sr., pastor of Tabernacle of Praise Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of J H Williams and Sons Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be friends and family and Flower Bearers will be Selma High School Class of 1974.

Sandra accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. We celebrate a life well lived and will forever feel her presence.
