“That means, if an organization is even considering applying for a grant in 2012, they must attend a community awareness grant seekers workshop,” Law said.
The upcoming workshop will address the new requirements of the grant application. For those considering submitting a grant application for either the BBAI Grant Cycle or Community Grants Cycle, attendance is mandatory for all new and returning organizations. Applications will be available at each workshop. The BBAI Grant application deadline is April 16 and the Community Grant application deadline is May 15. Only groups and organizations based in and serving Alabama’s Black Belt, Law said, may apply for grants. Bullock, Choctaw, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Wilcox and Dallas counties are eligible to apply.
“We encourage applicants to show compelling and specific evidence of community residents’ participation and leadership, use of your community’s assets, and the potential for their project to transform their community and the Black Belt,” Law said.
