After Christian leaders throughout the city of Selma met with Selma Mayor George Evans for the “Mayor’s Pastoral Breakfast” in January, Evans continued to promote the vision of “improving Selma,” Monday.
Pastors from throughout the city met inside the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center to discuss their concerns and issues of importance in hopes to spur positive change in the city.
Evans said he believed Monday’s meeting was a success.
“The turnout was very nice, we had some new ministers that came that couldn’t come before … we really worked out strategies to discuss how we’re going to divide up our domain,” Evans said.
Evans said small groups were formed at each table and ministers and spiritual leaders discussed and evaluated issues they felt the city needed to address. Some of those issues, Evans said, included litter, crime and togetherness.
“We gave each pastor a complete map of our city to see what each church in each ward could cover,” Evans said. “We’re looking forward to continuing to build this idea — this vision.”
Evans said an additional meeting is planned for Monday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. to finalize plans for the upcoming projects.
