Participation, Jimmy said, has been strong and he feels it will only get better as word of the rodeo continues to circulate.

“It’s been excellent and the kids really like this,” he said. “It gives them something to look forward to without getting in trouble all the time. We’ve had kids call us and thank us for doing it.”

Jimmy said they are in the process of getting bigger and better bucking bulls and expanding the arena. He said he hopes the rodeo can grow as they go along.

“It takes time and money to do all that,” he said. “We’re just trying to ease along until we can get to where we need to be so when we take the 12 boys to nationals they have as good a chance to win as the 12 boys from Texas.”

Like the January rodeo, Cowboy Church will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. Jimmy said there was more than 50 participants at the January church session.

Gates for the Saturday rodeo will open at about 3 p.m., Jimmy said, and there will be mutton busting and all of the other events that have been held.
