Many small towns in Alabama have restaurants that specialize in chicken, barbecue and steaks, Kelly said. To be singled out among the many fine eateries, he said, was a tremendous honor.

“It’s pretty good for a little town in Alabama with a restaurant that is hidden away,” he said. “To be named to one of these 100 places you have to go out of all these restaurants, it’s a great honor.”

You don’t have to take the website’s word for the quality of either dish — just stop by and ask the customers.

Carl Bowline, who frequents Grumbles, said he is never disappointed when he drops in.
“The chicken breast sandwich at Major Grumble’s is the best sandwich you can find in Alabama,” Bowline said. “It’s got a delicious flavor to it, it’s always cooked perfectly, the bread is perfect. It just hits the spot.”

Kelly said he has often received positive feedback as well.

“People that eat here always said it was a really great steak,” he said. “We were really pleased when we saw the recognition we received statewide. I guess a lot of folks had come through from out of town and found out about it. Now more will say ‘if I go through Selma maybe I’ll try that place.”
