This weekend, cowboys and cowgirls from Dallas County and all over the Southeast will gather for another rodeo sanctioned by the Alabama Youth and Junior Bull Riders Association.

The event, which will be organized by Jimmy and Pam Boswell, is building off the momentum created by previous events. Registration begins Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., and the rodeo begins at 7 p.m. Saturday registration runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the rodeo begins at 2 p.m. Slack, if needed, will run Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and Sunday morning following cowboy church, which begins at 9 a.m.

The purpose of this rodeo, Boswell said, is to teach young people that they can compete and love Jesus at the same time.

“Our mission is to produce rodeos that combine healthy rodeo competition and the Christian belief that through Christ, all things are possible,” Jimmy said. “To realize this mission, the AYJBR hosts monthly rodeos in a wholesome environment which facilitates and reinforces the highest type of conduct and sportsmanship that we value in our youth. We do this because the life lessons learned in the youth rodeo arena can transform the youth of today into the successful leaders of tomorrow.”

The AYJBRA began in January of 2010 and began generating rodeos in the fall of 2011. Boswell said they plan to host 12 rodeos in 2012.

The rodeo, which will be held at the Dallas County Horse Arena, has 20 campsites with full hookups available on a first-come, first-serve basis for $25 per weekend. There is also plenty of room for trailers that don’t need full-service hookups.

Admission is $10 for each performance and $20 for the weekend.
