As many businesses throughout the area will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, regular trash pickup schedules will also experience some changes for the holiday.

Public Works interim director Tommy Smith said there will be no garbage pickup on Monday. Trash pickup, Smith said, will resume Tuesday, Jan. 17.

“It’s the same schedule we have every holiday,” Smith said. “There will be a day behind on pickup.”

In a previous interview with the Times-Journal, Smith said residents should follow what is printed.

“Friday we don’t have garbage pickup — it’s our makeup day,” Smith said. “Monday’s will be picked up Tuesday, Tuesday picked up Wednesday, Wednesday picked up Thursday, Thursday is picked up Friday, which is the makeup day; everybody’s will be picked up within that week …”

Smith said because the department often has to take trash to a landfill site in Uniontown, trash pickup for limbs, leaves and debris, etc is somewhat behind.

“We want people to bear with us,” Smith said. “Hopefully we’ll open our new cells for the landfill by the end of this month.”

The following is the holiday trash pickup schedule.

Monday garbage will be picked up Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Tuesday garbage will be picked up Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Wednesday garbage will be picked up Thursday, Jan. 19. Thursday garbage will be picked up Friday, Jan. 20.

Regularly scheduled garbage pickup will resume Monday, Jan. 23.

Each office will open again on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
