Pack the house for hoops

Throughout the state of Alabama, high school basketball players know that if they step onto the court in a Black Belt gym, they had better have their shoes tied on tight.
Coaches from other regions aren’t shy about saying there is a certain level of intimidation for teams that come into Selma or Dallas County to tip it off.
It’s a testimony to the great basketball talent that is produced here each year. Talent levels and coaching just seem to be a little stronger in the Black Belt. Add in overflow crowds, and you have the recipe for championship hoops.
Though the games are played on the courts, what happens in the stands can also have a tremendous impact on the games.
Tactful crowd noise influences shots, play calls, and other aspects of the game.
In many gyms, the crowds become a sixth man, or sixth woman of sorts. You better believe the players feed off that energy.
Already this season, the crowds have again come through. Each game has been what it should be — a tough situation for the opponent.
Hopefully, the parents, supporters and fans of Selma and Dallas County basketball teams will continue to pack the house and cheer on their squads.
You would be surprised just how much it means to the boys and girls on the court to know their hard work and training is apprectiated. Keep packing the house and keep cheering your favorite teams on to victory.
