For those who are still contemplating on what gift to buy that special someone, family member or friend this Christmas, the Selma Art Guild offers an array of holiday creations to choose from.
The guild will hold its Christmas Open House beginning Sunday, Dec. 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will also offer refreshments and food.
With handcrafted tree ornaments, felt decorations, paintings, clay angels and glass jewelry to name a few on display, guild president Sally Jordan said the first-time event is a present to the community.
“This year we decided to give (the) community a Christmas party,” Jordan said. “We’re going to have tree ornaments, Christmas-oriented gifts, decorations … there will be numerous things. We appreciate the community’s participation at the Art Guild.”
The public will get a chance to see personal creations made especially for Christmas by guild artists.
“Jo Taylor will bring some more of (her) glassware and plates and pottery, I will bring more of my felt decorations and Jo Pate made pottery angels — which are like 4-inches-tall,” Jordan said. “So people can still get presents at the last minute, we thought we’d play up Christmas Eve; you don’t have to buy anything, just browse around and enjoy with us.”
And with the guild taking future projects outdoors beginning next spring and summer, Jordan said the guild has had a great year.
“We have more participation in the art community than ever before and in the Art Guild itself,” Jordan said. “The artists are always eager for people to come and see their creations and enjoy (them).”
The guild will also open noon to 4 p.m. Friday Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17 and Dec. 23 and 24 for continued Christmas browsing and shopping.
