The Keith High School Bears football team will look to rebound from its first loss of the season as it hits the road again Friday night.
The Bears (1-1, 0-1) will try to bounce back from last week’s 40-6 loss at No. 8 Maplesville when they travel to play Pickens County (2-0, 1-0) Friday night at 7 p.m. in region play.
Keith head coach Harry Crum said his team is going back to the basics in order to get back on track.
“We’re going back and working on some fundamentals, especially with defensive pass coverage,” Crum said. “We made some mistakes, but sometimes, during the heat of the moment, you can’t really tell exactly what’s going on. Hopefully, we’ll have a handle on it and we’ll be able to remedy that when we play against Pickens County.”
Crum said the Bears will have to be prepared when they face an athletic Pickens County team that’s coming off a dominating 58-7 win over Shades Mountain Christian.
“They’re athletic and have some athletes,” Crum said. “We’re athletic, and they can probably match our speed and our quickness man for man. They have some very good athletes and they love to try and take advantage of you when you’re on defense. I think they try to create mismatches and exploit those.”
In order to stop Pickens County’s athletes and get the win, Crum said the Bears will have to minimize their mistakes on both sides of the ball.
“We made some mistakes last week defensively and blocking scheme wise,” Crum said. “We missed block after block. We didn’t make a whole lot of turnovers, but we didn’t capitalize when we had the opportunity to do so. We’re going to have to play an almost flawless game to have a chance to beat those guys.”
