Coming off two wins to open the year, the Wallace Community College-Selma volleyball team is looking to keep the momentum going for a successful season.
The Lady Patriots (2-0) defeated Concordia 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-6) on Thursday night.
Wallace was led by freshman Brandi Jones who had 11 kills and freshman April Clark who added 9 kills.
Freshman Lania Spencer lead the Lady Patriots with 19 assists, while freshmen Dee Griffin and Nygia Brazier had 3 service aces each.
Wallace volleyball coach April Harper said her team is off to a nice start.
“So far, it’s going as well as can be expected,” Harper said. “I don’t want to say too much, too fast, but we’re going to take it one game at a time and give our best every game.”
Harper said her team needs to do a number of things in order to remain successful on the court.
“We need more hustle and to stay humble,” Harper said.
The Lady Patriots have 12 freshmen on their roster and Harper said they’ve been preparing to contribute early in the season.
“Eighty five percent of the team are freshmen,” Harper said. “We started early in the summer practicing. We’re just working hard everyday as far as conditioning in the summer, drills, more repetition and just one thing at a time.”
Wallace will play again Wednesday night at home against Snead State at 6 p.m.
