The Senators (0-1, 0-1) will play their first road game of the season Friday at 7 p.m. when they face the Prattville Christian Academy Panthers (1-1, 1-0) in region play.

Morgan Academy head football coach Brian King said the Senators went back to square one after a tough 21-7 loss to open the season.

“We started Monday and went back to the basics, got our fundamentals down and really focused on what makes us a good team,” King said. “We’re getting the guys back focused on what the goal is. We feel like now we’re more confident in the basics, and that’s going to help us in our game plan.”

King said the Senators have put the first loss behind them, and now turn their focus to a tough Panthers team.

“We think we’re prepared. We’ve got a good game plan for them,” King said. “They’re loaded with speed. Their punt returners, kick returners and wide receivers are very fast and if they get out into the open field, they’re very dangerous.”

King said his team is focusing on trying to contain the Panthers speed and force them to do things they’re not comfortable doing.

King added that his team will not only have to be good on defense, but they’ll also have to put points on the board in order to win.

“We’ve got to score some points,” King said. “We scored seven points last week and gave up 21. Defensively, we didn’t create a lot of third-down stops. We’ve got to get teams to fourth down more. Offensively, we’ve got to block the right people. We made a lot of mental errors last week with penalties.”
