This Sunday, instead of lazily stretching out on the couch, grab some paintbrushes, sketchpads and oils and put your creative imagination to work at the Selma Art Guild.

The art guild, located at 508 Selma Ave., will host a “Fellowship of Studio Artists” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., encouraging art guild members to display their works ranging from glass and clay to collages, watercolors, oils and 3-D work. The event, which will include a reception, is free and open to the public.

Selma Art Guild president Sally Jordan said the event is an opportunity for artists, who also have home studios, to come out and display their work.

“This happens once a year,” Jordan said. “Its all new artwork … it’s an opportunity to come together to show art and let the community enjoy it.”

The guild has recently undergone small renovations, which Jordan said would encourage more artwork.

“Our art gallery has been repainted, rooms refigured and we have more room to show more paintings,” Jordan said. “I’m asking each artist to bring four pieces of artwork.”

During the event, Jordan said, guild members will have a chance to sign up for future art workshops.

“We’ll have mosaics, watercolors and collages and probably some drawings,” Jordan said. “More information will be available.”

Jordan also said the guild will sponsor an “art trek” in April 2012 for individuals who wish to open up their personal studios for viewing.

“Wherever people work and want to show what’s in their office … it will be opened,” Jordan said. “A lot more work can be shown there than what’s shown at the art guild; It’s something new.”

Additional showings will take place Aug. 19 and 20, 26 and 27 from noon until 4 p.m. inside the guild. For more information call 874-9017.
