The rain that fell Wednesday evening will not deter the afternoon start for the Dixie Majors State Tournament taking place at Bloch Park Thursday.
The tournament kicks off with a bang Thursday with Opp and Sheffield starting things off at 1 p.m.
Games will be played continuously throughout the evening with game one being followed by South Eastern (Montgomery) and Morgan County at 3:30 p.m., Thomasville versus Auburn at 6 p.m. and Selma’s own team versus Oxford at 8:30 p.m.
With such late games on Thursday and Friday, the rain that has been finding it’s way into the area could potentially serve as a problem for officials, but Selma Parks and Recreations Department director Elton Reece said it will have to be dealt with as it comes along.
“There isn’t much room to push back or delay games with the schedule we have,” Reece said in an earlier interview. “Playing so late, you are talking about having to push back days and we don’t want to have to deal with that if we don’t have to.”
The Guntersville team will receive a by, not playing their first game until 10 a.m. to begin play on day two when they will play the winner of the South Eastern, Morgan County game.
After that game, play in the losers bracket will be the next two games at 12:30 and 3 p.m. and winners from the final two games on Thursday will play at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday’s fixtures will be at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.; Sunday’s semifinals will take place at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and the championship game will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with a game after if necessary.
