Four juniors from Morgan Academy’s playoff team were honored last week when they participated in the AISA All-Star game.

Ethan Fancher, Joel Yarbrough, John Pomeroy and Crawford Traylor, along with coach Bob Taylor went to Troy University last Monday to take part in the game that featured the state’s top talent.

“It went well,” Taylor said. “It’s always good to be able to experience that kind of talent that you play with. It’s just as fun coaching that kind of talent.”

The Senators showed well with its pair of pitchers Pomeroy and Traylor both throwing scoreless innings and getting multiple strikeouts.

“They all did well,” Taylor said. “The talent level was so high, but they were still able to make plays at the plate and on the mound. There were five guys that were clocked at 90-plus miles per hour and Ethan and Joel were both able to get hits off of them.”

“It really was a great experience,” Yarbrough said. “It was great to play at Troy on a college field and there were pitchers hitting 95 (miles per hour) and I’m able to say I got a hit off of him.”

The Senators side coached by Taylor was victorious 14-3, including a hit by Fancher that broke open the game.

“It was close to that point,” Taylor said. “After that hit we were able to pull away.”

Even though the weather was hot — Taylor said officials from Troy University said the field was about 150 degrees at game time -— the experience will always be a positive one.

“You get to go out there with talented guys and play in front of scouts,” Taylor said. “That a whole lot of fun. I feel like I had a good time and I know the boys did to.”
