Cincinnati Bengals linebacker and Dallas County graduate, Michael Johnson, loves his hometown, and this Saturday, Johnson wants to express his love for Selma at the MJ93 Fund summer youth football and cheer camp.
“Michael is through the roof excited; this camp is his passion,” said Treavion Davenport, CEO of Trea Day Management and Publicity and Johnson’s publicist. “To him, it’s all about Selma and Dallas County. He’s a committed philanthropist to the kids in Selma.”
With only four days left to register for the second annual camp to be held at Memorial Stadium, boys and girls between the ages of 8 to 17 can get a chance to learn about the National Football League, NCAA eligibility and requirements and available scholarship opportunities.
More than 200 children participated in last year’s camp and Davenport said the camp is a great opportunity for children to broaden their perspectives.
“We’re really optimistic and hopeful about girls participating in this year’s camp as well,” Davenport said. “For some children, they may never leave the county or city lines and this camp is a chance for local children to see first hand what academic achievement and success looks like.”
With some of Johnson’s friends from the NFL and other celebrities coming to inspire and educate the youth, Davenport said the camp brings exposure.
“The camp provides genuine hands-on instruction and mentoring,” Davenport said. “Children have the opportunity to see professional athletes and positive role models, even from their hometown, who’ve achieved greatness.
