Evelyn Rountree Sherrer

Evelyn Rountree Sherrer, age 87, of Selma, died Tuesday April 12, 2011 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Sherrer retired from the civil service as executive secretary at Craig Air Force Base and was an avid Bridge player and loved her bridge friends dearly.
She is survived by her husband J. Tom Sherrer; daughter, Christie Cummings (Roy) of Selma; son, William Bill Daniels (Becki) of Tucson, AZ; granddaughters, Candy Nichols (Lee), Kelly Waters (Terry), Mary Christie Hale (John Brian) and Mallori Hooker (Chad); Grandson, Braxton Leroy Cummings (Lauren Smith); three great grandchildren, Landon Nichols, Brooke Waters and John Braxton Hale; step daughter Sandra Purvis (Barney); step grandsons, Ronnie Sherrer,Jason Sherrer, Byron Purvis and Brannon Purvis and her sister, Mary Claire Moncrief of Tupelo, MS.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday April 14, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Sid McCollum officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The family received friends Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Lee Nichols, Terry Waters, John Brian Hale, Ronnie Sherrer, Jason Sherrer and Barney Purvis. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Mrs. Sherrer’s Bridge club and Chad Hooker.
Mrs. Sherrer was born to Judge William Russell Rountree and Evelyn Christie Rountree December 6, 1923. She was a member of the founding family of Valley Creek Presbyterian Church. As a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, President of Presbyterian Women, Presbytery Council member and elder, was a member of the Selma Charity League and DAR.
