With no chance of rain and only sunshine in the forecast today, it’s a perfect time to sit outdoors and enjoy the nice weather and paint.
The Selma Art Guild will hold a plein air, or outside painting, workshop today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Art Guild. Admission is $60 for Art Guild members and $70 for nonmembers.
Mother and daughter team Louella and Gena Clements, will teach inside demonstrations and students will then go outside and paint some of the houses featured at this year’s Pilgrimage, scheduled for March 18-19.
Louella, who coordinates events locally for the Alabama Plein Air Painters Society, has been painting for 10 years. She said the art form is “relaxing.”
“Painting outdoors is something different,” Clements said. “You can enjoy the fresh air and it takes you to another level and mood. You can find interesting objects to paint and it’s more pleasing to the eye than photography.”
Artists who participate in the workshop can display their paintings in a “wet paint sale” on March 19 at 5 p.m. Clements encourages all persons interested in painting to attend today’s workshop.
“We’re hoping to have a great showing,” Clements said. “We want others to get out, enjoy life and just count their blessings.”
