A real treat for those interested in history

I plan to be at the library lunch series Thursday to hear Jean Jackson talk about her book “The House by the Side of the Road.”  It came out recently, published by the University of Alabama Press.

Those who know “Miss Jean” know her history in the civil rights movement. Her house saw many of the movement’s leaders, including the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., come through to rest, meet and gather themselves together.

Jackson’s writing style is easy for the reader to follow. She tells her story as though the reader was sitting in her den, looking at the chairs King sat on when he came to Selma.

I can hardly wait for her to talk about the book and putting it together.

This is a history all of us should share. The library has plenty of tickets for Thursday noon.

Please join me as we hear stories from “The House by the Side of the Road.”
