Stopping youth violence in Selma has been an ongoing effort by community leaders and the community alike.

Selma City Council Ward 4 representative Angela Benjamin and her steering and planning committees invite the public to a town hall meeting to be held Tues., Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center to once again discuss solutions to ending violence among Selma youth.

“The public will get a chance to speak on the microphone, to ask questions and to participate,” Benjamin said. “We will have ‘mock’ study circles to prepare for the real one coming soon.”

Benjamin said it’s important for the public to get involved.

“We want to keep the public aware and add members to committees as we go,” Benjamin said.

Sheryl Smedley, director for the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, said the meeting is a way for everyone to express personal views freely.

“When everyone expresses their thoughts, concerns and issues, the community will get a better understanding of how to solve this issue of violence,” Smedley said. “We want to see how we as a community can work together because one person can’t do it alone and be successful, it takes a village.”
