On Thursday, shortly after the robbery, police arrested Malcolm Jamal Howard, 21, of Selma as a suspect.

Sgt. Doug Stewart said Howard was booked into the Dallas County Jail under $60,000 bond.

On Thursday, two suspects entered the store on Dallas Avenue, displayed a handgun to the cashier. As the two left the store, a late arriving Mr. Roy’s employee rammed his pick-up truck into the side of the suspects’ car, said Chief of Police William Riley.

The collision forced the suspects to flee on foot. They left behind a handgun in the vehicle. The store employee closed the car door to prevent the suspects from retrieving the weapon.

The employee said he chased the two across the street to Crosspoint Community Church, but he was able to get back to his car.

Neely said Howard is expected to have a hearing is District Court later this week.
