Two juveniles arrested, charged with criminal mischief

SELMA — Two juveniles were arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree after a police lieutenant and a concerned citizen chased them down.

Lt. Johnny King observed five juvenile males standing near a vehicle on Monday while King was working a detail implemented recently due to an increase in burglaries.

Selma Police Sgt. Doug Stewart said King approached the juveniles where they stood in the 800 block of Parkman Avenue near a vehicle.

Stewart said when the juveniles noticed King was a police officer, they walk away from the vehicle. King noticed a broken window of the vehicle.

“As he got closer to the juveniles, they began fleeing the scene. Lt. King, along with the assistance of a concerned citizen, were able to apprehend two juveniles, age 12 and 13,” Stewart said.

The two youths were released to family members.

The identity of juvenile offenders is protected by state law.
