A Selma woman has been arrested on charges of inciting a riot, failure to disperse and resisting arrest.

Kaneesha Swift, 19, paid $1,500 bond and was released Monday from the Dallas County Jail.

Selma Police Administrative Division Commander Sgt. Doug Stewart said the arrest occurred Monday in the 400 block of J.L. Chestnut Boulevard as officers made an arrest of a male suspect.

“Several females in the area began cursing and using threatening language in the presence of officers,” Stewart said. “Officers advised the offenders to stop to which they complied.”

Later a woman identified by police as Swift arrived and, Stewart said, “Began inciting individuals to engage in violent conduct and manner.”

Stewart said officers told the woman to stop, but she became more aggressive, and officers began to fear for their safety and for others in the area.

Officers told the woman she was under arrest. The woman ran and officers chased her, caught and arrested her, Stewart said.
