The National Weather Service in Birmingham has extended the severe thunderstorm watch issued earlier today until 7 p.m.

A few severe thunderstorms may develop this afternoon and evening, moving southeast across the area.

These storms have the potential to produce strong, gusty winds, large hail and locally heavy rainfall.
