Twelve graduates walked across Central Christian Academy’s stage at Friday night’s ceremony and will be the last class before the school officially changes into Ellwood Christian Academy in the fall.
The Rev. Gary L. Crum of Ellwood Community Church in Selma gave the commencement address and the Rev. Carl V. Rawls, father of valedictorian Bryant Carlton Rawls, opened up the ceremony with prayer.
Marilyn Rawls, mother of the valedictorian, said her son has always been a high achiever.
“I can honestly say that as a parent, I am very proud,” she said. “My son has always demonstrated academic excellence and I’m blessed to have him as my son.”
Bryant Carlton Rawls graduated with a 4.0 grade-point average, and received a full scholarship from Auburn University-Montgomery. He wants to major in general business and play for the AUM basketball team.
Salutatorian, J’Mari Andre Davis, plans to attend Oakwood University in Huntsville and major in business management.
High school sweethearts Bo Johnson and Katherine “Katie” Nicole Shirling shared their excitement in graduating together. Both plan to attend Wallace Community College Selma, school of nursing. Shirling said she is happy the graduation has come to an end.
“I’m just relieved,” she said, “it’s finally over.”
