SELMA — Three touchdown runs by Austin Smitherman and a pair of scoring passes from Walker Mason to Jody Glover helped bring Morgan Academy’s spring football practice to a close.
All-in-all, Senators coach Brian King said it was a productive day.
We just want to see what the young guys have,” King said. “What we need is senior leadership, and we have that.”
King split the team into a 15-men team and a 16-man team to give everyone a chance to play. But it was Smitherman who stood out with scoring runs of approximately 40, 50 and 60 yards.
“I enjoy watching him play,” King said. “He’s got better footwork and little better arm strength. He’s more mature as a quarterback for sure.”
Parker Hughes also ran for a touchdown in the intrasquad game.
