Community to celebrate Jesus Day

Although each day can be a spiritual experience, Sunday’s celebration will lift spirits high through reflection and revival.

Named “Jesus Day,” the joyous event is intended to praise the workings of Jesus Christ.

“It’s the community coming together to celebrate Jesus and to encourage those who don’t know him to know him, and those who know him to do one thing he did while he was on Earth, that day,” said Dr. Park Chittom Sr., coordinator.

The event will be held in the intersection of Lauderdale Street and Dallas Avenue from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday.

It will feature performances by musicians, choirs, mimes and praise messages from pastors.

More than 2,000 people are expected to attend this year. The event is free to the public.

Refreshments of hot dogs, catfish and hushpuppies provided free thanks to donations from community churches.

A limited number of lawn chairs will be provided, but it is suggested to come with chairs in tow.

“Come out and just enjoy yourself,” Chittom said.

The event started in 2000 with more than 450 cities across the United States. The purpose is to bring honor to Jesus’ name through worship and community service.
