A routine traffic search on Interstate-65 has resulted in the arrest of two men by a Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputy.

James Lozano, 36, and Hugo Candanosa, 21, were arrested and charged with drug trafficking by authorities.

On Wednesday about 4 p.m. near mile marker 148, deputy Al Cox pulled over a tractor trailer rig to perform the routine search. The deputy found a hidden compartment underneath the sleeper in the vehicle’s cab, said Lowndes County Sheriff Chip Williams.

The compartment looked like a subwoofer speaker box, but Cox discovered seven bundles of marijuana in two duffel bags hidden in the compartment.

“The vehicle was scheduled to arrive in Tampa, Fla., by Monday night to deliver the contents of the trailer,” Williams said.

The sheriff said his department will file condemnation papers on the truck and the trailer. The person who owns the trailer’s contents was contacted to recover his materials.
