MARION — Once more the old cadets marched on the grounds of Marion Military.
This weekend Marion Military alumni came back to Marion.
The year, alumni weekend brought in more than 350 people to the MMI campus, the city of Marion, and Selma.
“Once again the MMI faculty, staff, and Corps of Cadets did an outstanding job welcoming alumni and friends back on campus for the Alumni Weekend festivities,” said Carrie Robertson Williams, MMI alumni director. “The weekend was a huge success with over 350 alumni in attendance, some making the trip from as far away as Seattle, New York, and Hawaii.”
The alumni began showing up on Thursday for a fish fry . The weekend was filled with scholarship presentation and honored guests,
cadet demonstrations, and receptions; concluding with an alumni celebration at the Elks Lodge in Selma.
Taylor D. Wilkins was honored as the alumni of the year during a banquet on Saturday evening.
Wilkins graduated from Marion Military from 1960 and went on to play football for Alabama where he was apart of the 1961 Nation Championship team.
“This was such an amazing event for MMI and for the alumni,” Aaron Calvert, Public Relations Coordinator at MMI said. “You could really tell how much the alumni appreciated what MMI had done for them in the past. This was my first year experiencing Alumni Weekend and I am honored to be a part of such a great place with so many supportive alumni.”
According to Calvert, each and every attendee had a wonderful time throughout the entire weekend.
