The Selma High School track team has taken this year to grow.

According to first-year head coach Ivery Williams the squad has many first year runners that have started this year.

“Its been great,” said Williams of his team’s season. “We have some very good young sprinters.”

So far the team has finished four meets with a top finish at the Greensboro Relays this past Wednesday.

“I can see an improvement because of all of the first year runners,” said Williams. “Our relay team has cut about five seconds off of their time.”

Friday the team hosted four teams from across the state and, even though the official results were not tallied, Williams was pleased with how they did.

Now Williams hopes that his team can carry their momentum into the track sectionals, which will be held in Beauregard on April 23-24.

“I want to be able to at least qualify my two relay teams,” said Williams. “We always have at least four or five qualify for sectionals. I hope to repeat that this year.”
