Valley Grande marking off playing fields for the summer

Valley Grande is a city that has spent the last ten years growing.

With a brand new baseball league that started this year, the need for more growth presented itself in the form of baseball fields.

“This isn’t one of those ‘If you build it they will come,’ things,” said Valley Grande Mayor Tom Lee. “The need is already here.”

Now those fields are beginning to come to fruition near the Valley Grande City Park off County Road 17.

Valley Grande Councilman Steve Neighbors and Lee spent the afternoon Monday measuring and marking the land in order to begin the planning stages of the fields.

“We will be able to fit two (fields) in right here,” said Councilman Neighbors. “We can come back later down the road if we need to.”

According to Lee the plans for the field call for the development of a 650 feet by760 feet area of land.

Even though Neighbors and Lee are getting the plans ready, they know that a lot of work still needs to be done before the fields are ready.

“We have to get it laid out,” said Neighbors. “Get a cost on it, come up with a plan to fund it and get it approved. After that we can get it ready and go.”
