Councilwoman Patsy Moore and the city of Valley Grande are quietly getting set for its seventh annual Founder’s Day.

“Since we are a new city we like to celebrate at least once a year,” Moore said.

Moore has started the process of preparing for the annual event, which will be held at the Valley Grande City Park off of County Road 16.

This is the third year in a row that the city has held Founder’s Day at the walking trail after moving from the old Valley Grande City Hall.

“It has really worked out better here,” said Moore. “We have more room, everything is more open and the kids can run around and play.”

This year, Valley Grande will team with the Alabama Tourism Department for a special event.

“For the past few years the Alabama Tourism Department has held ‘the year of’ celebrations,” said Councilwoman Libby Ezelle. “In 2010, it is the year of small towns and downtowns.”

According to Ezelle and alabamahomecoming.com, cities across Alabama will be participating in more than 500 events throughout the year.

“The only requirement to participate was you had to have some type of community event,” said Ezelle. “In return, the tourism department will send a historical marker.”

Right now Moore said she is working on getting participation for vendors.

“I’ve started with the vendors,” said Moore. “And people who want to raise money for churches or schools. Stuff like that.”

Founder’s Day is scheduled for May 8. For more information you can contact Moore at 334-872-0730 or Valley Grande City Hall at 334-872-0104.
