SELMA — Supporters of the Central Alabama Animal Shelter didn’t pussyfoot around at the third annual Paws Ball.

Instead they danced, ate, drank and bought auctioned items all for a good cause Saturday night at the Carl Morgan Convention Center.

“It’s a big fundraiser each year that we have done it,” said Kelly Sue Giampietro, a member of the board for the animal shelter. “We hope that this year it will raise even more money for the shelter.”

The shelter houses and cares for animals from Dallas, Wilcox and Perry counties. The shelter is at capacity now.

Money raised at Paws Ball will go directly to taking care of all the animals in the shelter, including medicine and veterinarian visits, said Warren Hinson, a board member.

Paws Ball featured dinner, dancing and a full auction, featuring 38 packages of gifts, including three dogs from the shelter.

“Everything that is a package was donated to the shelter,” said Giampietro. “We just want to say ‘Thank You, Thank You’ to all of those people who donated.”

According to Giampietro the Paws Ball has become a bigger and bigger event each year it ha been held.

“This year it we are almost at full capacity,” said Giampietro.

Shelter board president Judy Potter seemed as happy about the turnout as her fellow board members.

“All the money goes to a great cause,” she said. “I’m happy because I am an animal lover.”
