A man threatening to jump from the Edmund Pettus bridge has turned himself in to authorities.

Selma police faced him in a standoff for nearly an hour while the man, authorities have identified as being from Greenville, took off his shirt and shoes and tossed them in the river. At one point he straddled the railing on the east side of the bridge.

The Selma Fire and Rescue boat waited in the Alabama River to the west of the bridge.
