Selma High Band needs donations

For several years Selma High School has represented this area in a Mardi Gras parade or two down in Mobile.
This year is no different. Mobile has again asked Selma High’s band to perform in four Mardi Gras parades from Feb. 14 until Feb. 16.
The students will have from now until shortly before to raise money to get to Mobile on two chartered buses, pay for hotel rooms and eats. They’ll be well chaperoned with band parents.
Selma High has always represented the area well down there at Mardi Gras. The band’s actions speak well for the whole area — showing the arts are not omitted from public schools, although money is tight; representing the best of youth in our area.
These band members and their families will have to make some sacrifices to get to Mobile and back. The least we can do as community is to help them out.
So, if you see a band bake sale or some other kind of fundraiser, participate. Even if you don’t, find a band member, press what you can into that person’s hand and wish them luck.
After all, they represent us — Selma.
We should help them.
