University of West Alabama dismisses classes

LIVINGSTON, Ala.–Due to threatening weather conditions, the University of West Alabama and the Demopolis Higher Education Center (DHEC) will close Thursday, Jan. 7, and Friday, Jan. 8, except for offices essential for continuing operation. All faculty, staff and students should report for classes Monday, Jan. 11, as scheduled.

On-campus registration at UWA and DHEC, which was scheduled for Friday, has been changed to Monday at 9 a.m.
UWA residence halls will be open as scheduled, and the Office of Student Life and Housing will be open Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Young Hall Cafeteria will open Sunday evening for dinner.
In the event that conditions require the University to remain closed beyond Friday, Jan. 8, an announcement to this effect will be distributed to area media; sent to all faculty, staff and students via SchoolCast, the University’s emergency alert system; posted on the University Web page at UNIVERSITY WEB PAGE ; and updated on the weather information hotline (205-652-3888). Students and parents should consult these outlets for announcements. If no announcement regarding cancellations is made, then classes and events will be held as scheduled. UWA faculty, staff and students should closely monitor weather conditions and reports, seek shelter if necessary, and use judgment before traveling in inclement weather.
