SELMA — Public school opens today in the city and tonight the gym will open for an area game that will see the Saints take on Chilton County.

The girls’ game begins at 5 p.m.

But the Saints haven’t been idle. Last week the girls and boys teams took on Lanier at home.

The Selma High girls lost a heartbreaker 49-55 in the last few minutes of the game. They had hoped to break Lanier’s 14-0 record.

Keisha Moore scored 24 points and Janishia Jackson scored 10.

Lanier’s girls were lead by Taila Arrington and Sheila Thomas, who had 14 points each. Ashley Healey had 10 points for the game.

Selma’s girls are 14-5 going into tonight’s game.

The same matchup only on the boys side turned out differently as the Saints of Selma defeated Lanier last week 70-53.

“This is the first time in several games we put two halves together,” said coach Woodie Jackson. “We had a real good defensive game.”

Charles Eaton led scorers with 22 points. He also had seven rebounds and five assists. Malcolm Riley came in a close second with 17 points. Riley also had 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Dupré Rivers scored 10 points and racked up eight rebounds.

Defensively, Kary Mitchell had 11 rebounds. He also scored seven points.

Lanier’s top point-getter was Keith Braswell with 17 points. D-ant Lawrence followed with 16 points.
