Southside girls drop one to Dallas County

The Southside Lady Panthers (5-5) fell to the Dallas County Hornets (10-2) Tuesday evening at Southside High School with a score of 49-34.
The game started with a quick basket from each team, but then Dallas County was able to hold off Southside from scoring for a full minute.
Dallas County then shot up their score by seven points in 30 seconds, and then again held Southside from scoring until 4:36 minutes remaining in the second period.
The Hornets were up at the half 8-28, and up at the end of the third period 20-42. Final score was Dallas over Southside, 34-49.
“I really wasn’t pleased with the first half,” said Charles Thompson, head coach of the Hornets. “We did capitalize on some of their mistakes. But, it’s a win, so I’ll take it.”
Lead scorer for Dallas County was Bianca Heard with 14 points.
“I though we outplayed them but didn’t hit the shots,” said Wanda Tyler, head coach of the Southside girls team.
“We’ve got to be able to hit the shots.”
As a team, the girls took 59 shots, but only make about 17 of them. Keyria Miles was the lead scorer for Southside with 12 points.
“Overall, Dallas County is probably the better team in our area,” Tyler said.
She takes her earrings off the to coach, Tyler said. “But, we’re going to fight back going to their house.”
