Grants awarded two Black Belt towns
MONTGOMERY — The towns of Luverne and White Hall have received Community Development Block Grants of $400,000 each for infrastructure improvements.
Gov. Bob Riley announced the grants Tuesday.
Luverne will use its grant to upgrade its sewer system by replacing lines and enhancing equipment on the city’s west side.
White Hall will construct a treatment plant and sewer line to serve 138 residents.
Each community will pay a match of $40,000.
Funding for the grants came to the state through a program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Commuity Affairs is administering the grant.
