SELMA — The police department fished out a 10-year-old Altima from the Alabama River earlier today, but no fatalities or injuries were reported.
Selma Police Department Lt. David Evans said a fisherman at the City Marina alerted authorities to the car in the river at about 10:45 a.m. Monday. The car was unoccupied. Authorities searched for the vehicle’s owner and found him.
The vehicle’s owner, who police would not identify, said he was going to kill himself, but backed out at the last minute.
“At this point he is alive and well and speaking to officers and they will refer him to the appropriate medical people,” Evans said.
