Selma swimmers finish 3rd at meet

BIRMINGHAM — The SAY Gators of Selma won the third-place trophy Sept. 19 in the group’s first YMCA swim meet at the Greystone YMCA in Birmingham with only two swimmers in competition.
Patrick Haskell, a fifth-grader at Meadowview Elementary, and Caleb McDougal, a sixth-grader at Valley Grande Elementary, competed in the meet.
Haskell received the alternate high-point trophy for the 9- to 10-year-old division. He finished first in the 50-yard breaststroke (40.53 seconds), then second in 50 butterfly (37.47), 50 freestyle (31.41) and 200 individual medley (1:20.46).
McDougal competed in the 11-12 division and finished second in the 50 freestyle (31.61), third in 50 butterfly (40.09) and fifth in 50 breaststroke (47.57). He had a time of 44.22 in the 50 backstroke.

The SAY Gators will host a meet with the Prattville YMCA from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 3 at the Selma YMCA.
