TUSCALOOSA — In overtime, the Senators (2-3) went for a two-point conversion to seal the victory, but fumbled instead.
“We took a risk,” Morgan coach Brian King said. “Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. In this case, unfortunately, it didn’t work for us. But taking risks like that are what make football enjoyable to watch.”
Senators quarterback Austin Smitherman carried 21 times for 142 yards total. He had an 83-yard run for a touchdown in the first, an 11-yard run for another touchdown in the third quarter and a one-yard run for the last touchdown in overtime.
Heath Brantley had nine carries for 35 yards. Smitherman completed 7-of-14 passes for 122 yards.
Walker Mason led the defense with seven tackles — two for a loss and one sack.
“They played really hard,” King said. “Overall we played with them, but we didn’t have enough for the end.”
Tuscaloosa Academy’s record went to 3-3.
