SELMA — Margaret Hardy has announced her candidacy for the Selma City School Board District 3 seat, which encompasses city wards 3 and 8.

The election is Oct. 27.

Hardy said her longstanding advocacy on behalf of children through various affiliation with community-based organizations over the years speaks for itself.

She said she has spent many hours on youth initiatives to inculcate core values, high self-esteem, self sufficiency and academic excellence.

Hardy said the school board can service as a vehicle to continued pursuit of the ideals on a larger scale.

She said her motivation to run for the office grows out of a desire to see change in the way the school board mandates and approaches and resolves issues.

“A school board’s responsibility is to provide oversight and insight and to determine overall policies and objectives,” she said. “To that end, school board members have a moral responsibility to foster and promote good will between parents and the school.”

Hardy is a trustee and has served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher at Freedom Baptist Church.

Her daughter, Delta Dawn, is a product of the Selma City Schools. Her daughter lives in Atlanta, where she is a teacher.

Hardy earned an advance degree from Faulkner University in Montgomery.
