Information for PACT holders is available

Dear editor,

Save Alabama PACT (Pre-paid Affordable College Tuition) is a volunteer grass roots organization dedicated to one goal: making sure that all tuition contracts sold by the state of Alabama are honored. Parents and grandparents purchased these guaranteed contracts with the defined benefit of paying college tuition for their children and grandchildren, not as an investment strategy for financial gain. The State of Alabama has both a legal and moral obligation to honor each and every contract.

Since the problems in the PACT program were made public in February 2009, we have been compiling contact information for all PACT contract holders. This initiative is extremely important because the State Treasurer’s office will not release contact information to us for PACT contract holders due to privacy concerns. I encourage any parents/grandparents who purchased PACT contracts for their children or grandchildren to sign up on our website at http://www.savealabamapact.com/ .

Another initiative has been to create area groups of PACT contract holders by geographic areas. The Montgomery Area/Southeast Alabama group includes Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Coosa, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, and Tallapoosa counties. We have held one meeting and communicate regularly by e-mail. I would welcome the opportunity to communicate about our work with anyone who lives in these counties. My e-mail address is kittycollier@savealabamapact.com.
