High school football practices reached a different level Monday when hardware became wardrobe for local players.

At 6:45 a.m. Monday, Meadowview Christian School hit the field in full pads for two-a-days.

First-year coach Kenneth Strong’s Trojans went through three hours of drills before returning at 6:30 p.m. to work on the offense.

“I thought we did well for the first day in pads,” he said. “We did a lot of hard work.”

Meadowview opens its season Aug. 21 at home with Tuscaloosa.

Selma’s Saints donned helmets for their afternoon workout.

They begin two-a-days Tuesday.

“We had a lot of rough edges today,” said second-year Coach Foster Davis.

“But we are going to smooth those out.”

Selma will put on full pads beginning Thursday and also practice Saturday mornings before their Aug. 28 home opener with Southside.

Also opening on Aug. 28 are Dallas County at West Blocton, Keith at Hayneville Central, Maplesville at Billingsly, R.C. Hatch at Livingston, Hale County at Francis Marion, Wilcox at Sparka and Pike Lib at Morgan. Meadowview plays its second game at Jackson.
